When visitors leave comments, we collect data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address, and browser user agent to help detect spam.

An anonymized string (hash) may be created from your email address to see if you are using the Gravatar service. If you are using it, after your comment is approved, your profile picture will be visible to the public. Gravatar Privacy Policy.

Media

Avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Other visitors can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

Comment Cookies: If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you don't need to fill in your details again for another comment. These cookies last for one year.

Login Cookies: We set temporary cookies to determine if your browser accepts cookies. These cookies contain no personal data and are discarded when you close your browser. Persistent login cookies last for two days, or two weeks if you select “Remember Me.”

Editing Cookies: Cookies are also set when you edit or publish an article to save the post ID of the article you edited, expiring after 1 day.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles). These behave in the same way as if the visitor has visited the original website, which may collect data about you, use cookies, and monitor your interaction with embedded content.

Your IP address may be included in a password reset email if you request a password reset.

Data Retention

Comments: Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely to recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.

Registered Users: For users that register on our site, we store the personal information they provide in their user profiles. Users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (username cannot be changed). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Your Rights Over Your Data

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you, excluding any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
